Association of Lactation Consultants Ireland ALCI aims to promote the professional development, advancement and recognition of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) for the benefit of breastfeeding infants and children, mothers, families and the wider community.

Charitable breastfeeding support organisations in UK

Association of Breastfeeding Mothers A charity run by mothers for mothers, committed to giving friendly support and supplying accurate information to all women wishing to breastfeed.

The Breastfeeding Network BfN's aims are to promote breastfeeding in the UK, collect and disseminate information on breastfeeding and baby and infant nutrition, and provide information and support to parents on the feeding of babies and infants. It has extensive information on medications and breastfeeding.

La Leche League GB Affiliated to La Leche League International which is a world-wide voluntary organisation, dedicated to providing support, information and education to women who want to breastfeed and to those who care for them

National Childbirth Trust The NCT supports thousands of people each year through the incredible life-changing experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

The Baby Café Charitable Trust Baby Cafés are a network of branded drop-in centres which support breastfeeding mothers, so that they can get free, top quality help and support.

Little Angels Peer Supporters in Lancashire have joined forces with local PCTs to show breastfeeding as fashionable: http://www.beastar.org.uk/

All of the above charities offer free support to breastfeeding parents with no strings attached.

Milk Banking

The United Kingdom Association for Milk Banking A registered charity supporting and promoting human milk banking in the UK.

The Human Milk Banking Association of North America HMBANA is a multidisciplinary group of health care providers that promotes, protects, and supports donor milk banking.

Other charities and NGOs

Baby Milk Action Calls for infant feeding information to be kept free from commercial pressures, and co-ordinates the Nestlé boycott in UK. Part of IBFAN. LCGB supports Baby Milk Action and is a member of the Baby Feeding Law Group.

International Baby Food Action Network IBFAN works globally to reduce infant and young child morbidity and mortality by the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding and optimal infant feeding practices.

Breastfeeding Manifesto The Manifesto is supported by LCGB, alongside over 30 other organisations and many individuals. It calls for the UK Government to implement 7 key objectives to strengthen support for breastfeeding. This would improve the nation's health and reduce health inequalities, saving the NHS millions of pounds annually.

Best Beginnings A not-for-profit organisation whose aims are to give babies from all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds the best possible start in life, through the development of educational resources and collaboration with health professionals.

Biological Nurturing Dr Suzanne Colson’s Biological Nurturing is a mother-centred approach that suggests new ways to hold and cuddle babies to increase the enjoyment of breastfeeding, based on award-winning research.
